What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a form of therapy where the we work towards reprocessing memories using points within the client’s field of vision to find “brainspots” related to difficult emotions, sensations, and experiences. Brainspotting is a technique that can assist people struggling with PTSD symptoms, dissociation, depression, and anxiety. It also can help alleviate physical issues and assist in regulating sleep patterns.

Brainspotting is still in its early stages of research and was developed in 2003. Despite its early stages of development, brainspotting research has found that brainspotting recipients continue to process targeted memories and see symptom reduction for about 6 moths following a only handful of sessions, suggesting long-term recovery benefits.

In preparation for brainspotting sessions, we will get to know one another as the therapist’s ability to “attune” to the client’s needs and emotional responses is key to effective processing. The client is the leader within brainspotting sessions, using verbal and non-verbal forms of communication, and the therapist is a guide throughout.
